Where are stem cells in the body?

While stem cells may be located anywhere in the body, the most concentrated locations are in fat and in bone marrow.

How do you isolate stem cells?

Our technique uses bone marrow aspiration to isolate the most concentrated numbers of stem cells.

What are autologous stem cells?

This means stem cells from your own body rather than from someone else. This is the focus of our treatments. The major advantage of using autologous stem cells is because the cells come from your own body, there is no risk of rejection or an immune system attack.

What are allogeneic stem cells?

This simply means stem cells are donated from another person.

What are some of the types of stem cells used in medical treatments?

Embryonic stem cells are cells that come from embryos that are 3-5 days old. These cells can be very useful, but there are ethical concerns about their use. The embryos used in embryonic stem cell research come from excess eggs that were fertilized at fertility clinics but were never meant to be implanted. The stem cells are donated with informed consent by the donors. They are then grown further in laboratories to produce more cells from that cell line. We do not use these stem cells in our clinic.

Perinatal stem cells are recovered from amniotic fluid (the fluid that surrounds a fetus), umbilical cord, and foreskin of newborns. No babies are harmed during the harvesting of these cells.

Adult stem cells: these are typically harvested from bone marrow or fat of healthy adults.

What is platelet rich plasma?

Platelet rich plasma (aka PRP) is a concentrated amount of your own platelets in a small portion of the liquid from your own blood (plasma). Platelets contain helpful growth factors that can help direct the stem cells to heal in time of injury. We draw blood and isolate the platelets to utilize the healing effects of their growth factors.

What type of stem cells do you use?

We typically perform our procedures using a combination of autologous stem cells from your bone marrow combined with platelet rich plasma from your blood.

What areas are typically treated?

Wrist, shoulders, elbows, knees, hip (case by case)

Is bone marrow aspiration painful?

Many of our patients have undergone bone marrow aspiration with only lidocaine (local numbing medication). We also offer monitored sedation so that you are completely comfortable throughout the entire procedure.

Will I need a driver?

If you choose to undergo sedation, you will need someone to drive you home. We do offer nitrous oxide (aka laughing gas) that does not require a driver.

What sort of recovery should I expect?

The bone marrow aspiration site on your hip will typically be mildly sore for 1-3 days. The injected joint will be sore for 1-4 days depending on your response. You should be able to perform your normal activities of daily living the day after the procedure.

Does my insurance cover treatment?

Insurance typically does not cover this treatment, but we offer financing options through Care Credit and Cherry.

I’ve been a patient for 4 years and have always had the most superb treatment and out comes. However, yesterday was a day where the entire team went above and beyond. Long story short, I made the mistake of having a treatment at another clinic (for the “deal”) and it was botched! I called Rejuvenated very upset and I was squeezed in for an emergency consult!!
