Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy

As we age, hormones including estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone begin to decline leading to symptoms that can negatively impact our quality of life. These hormones begin to decline as early as age 30 and the symptoms are often overlooked until women reach menopausal age when symptoms are often most severe.

  • Common Symptoms of Hormone Imbalance
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Lack of energy
  • Reduced mental focus, memory, and poor concentration
  • Irritable, anxious, or depressed
  • Weight gain that is most commonly in the midsection
  • Difficulty losing weight
  • Decreased muscle strength
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Reduced sexual desire and performance

How Hormone Replacement Therapy Works

At Rejuvenated Medical Spa, we offer bio-identical hormone therapy to replace these declining hormones. As a result, hormone levels will increase, and symptoms will improve. Dr. Gentry’s focus is not simply on prescribing, but on combining the appropriate dosage and delivery method to balance a patient’s hormones. Each person is different, and their needs change over time. This is why Rejuvenated creates an individualized program designed for each patient. Bio-identical hormones are specifically compounded to identically match what your body once produced.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is BHRT?

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is the use of hormones made from plant sources, such as yams, which replicate human hormones. Both pellets and creams are bio-identical hormone treatment options.

  • What are the pellets made of?

Wild yams! Yams have the highest concentration of hormones of any substance and there are no known allergens associated with them.

  • What hormones are used?

    Testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone.

  • Do women really need testosterone?

Testosterone is extremely important for both men and women. Women require a much lower dose than men.

  • How long will pellet therapy last?

This varies but typically pellets are replaced every 3-4 months for women and every 4-5 months for men. Levels of extremely high activity or stress may cause you to metabolize the pellets more quickly.

  • Is therapy FDA approved?

Pellets are made in FDA approved facilities and distribution is regulated.

  • What is the procedure like?

A mild local anesthetic is used to numb the area and then the pellets are placed into the fatty tissue under the skin. The procedure should be painless and the entirety of your visit should take about 15-20 minutes total.

  • Do I need blood work prior to starting treatment?

Yes! It is critical to determine your levels prior to starting treatment to provide you with the most individualized approach. Your hormones levels will then be rechecked in 6-8 weeks after starting treatment to ensure that you are responding appropriately.

  • Does it matter that I am on oral birth control?

The specifics of this will be discussed during your initial consultation.

  • Are there any side effects?

Side effects are typically rare when hormone treatment is dosed correctly. Women may experience transient breast tenderness or menstrual spotting after the initial beginning treatment due to a change in estrogen levels. Mild hair growth or acne are possible occurrences from testosterone therapy. Men may experience decreased testicular mass and possible prostate enlargement. These side effects occur much more frequently with the use of synthetic hormone replacement therapy.

  • What if I previously had breast cancer?

If you have a personal or family history of breast cancer you may still be a candidate. Again, this will be determined during your initial consultation.
