Women’s bodies are amazing. And we know that it can be extremely frustrating when your body is not functioning the way you believe it should or the way it once did.

In a lifetime, a woman’s body goes through several changes. Vaginal laxity and other symptoms can develop following childbirth and menopause. Many women neglect to seek treatment for these uncomfortable symptoms because the treatment options are not well known.

Fortunately, thanks to advanced technology and science, there are multiple treatment options. Female intimate wellness treatment can be performed without surgery and without downtime.

When it comes to discussing the topic of your vaginal health it can be extremely personal and slightly uncomfortable. However, your sexual & and urinary health are important topics that should be addressed. So let’s go there…

Female Intimate Wellness

What is female intimate wellness? This term can mean many things but here we are going to focus on issues related to the sexual and urinary health of women. Our main focus is to educate women on how common some of these concerns are, what causes them, and how they can be addressed. As always, please let us know if you have any specific questions and we would be happy to address them.

Sexual Health

As women age, the amount of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone decrease. This midlife reduction of hormones leads to many issues throughout the female body such as mental fog, weaker bones, fatigue, thinner skin, reduced libido and arousal and other issues. In the vagina, blood supply diminishes and the tissue becomes thinner and less vibrant, lubrication is decreased, arousal may be reduced and the clitoris can become less sensitive and even decrease in size. This can lessen a woman’s enjoyment of sex and decrease her ability to orgasm. Over time, this can interfere with marriage and relationships due to reduced sexual desire and pleasure.

Urinary Health

This same decrease in hormones can increase the risk of stress urinary incontinence. Stress urinary incontinence is the leaking of urine with exercise, coughing, sneezing etc. Pregnancy and vaginal delivery can significantly worsen these symptoms by stretching the muscles of the pelvic floor. According to the British Medical Journal, up to 55% of women have symptoms of stress urinary incontinence. This risk increases with age, childbirth, and obesity.

How Can These Issues Be Addressed?

Many of our patients wish to return to the sexual desire and pleasure that they experienced when they were younger. Some simply wish to be able to exercise without leaking urine. We offer a variety of treatments that can improve sexual and/or urinary health. In fact, we are not aware of anyone in Northwest Arkansas who focuses more on sexual and urinary health than us!

  1. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy: a major cornerstone of treating these issues is to return hormones to a younger level. This can improve blood flow to the vagina, improve lubrication, and restore the youthful look and feel to vaginal tissues. This is almost always step one in addressing sexual and urinary health. This is typically achieved through hormone pellets placed under the skin every 3-4 months or topical creams applied daily.
  2. ThermiVa: This procedure uses radiofrequency to gently heat the external and internal vaginal region, increasing the production of collagen. Tightening of collagen bundles can improve vaginal laxity following childbirth, increase urinary control, reduce painful intercourse, and even improve the external appearance of the vagina. This treatment is performed in a series of 3-4 30 minute treatments and is drug free, painless, and requires no down time or recovery.
  3. O Shot: This procedure uses the science of platelet rich plasma (PRP) to isolate growth factors from your own blood to rejuvenate the tissues of the vagina and clitoris. This treatment is performed in the office in about 30-45 minutes and requires no down time. Rejuvenated Medical Spa is the only practice in Fayetteville trained to perform this procedure and trained with the inventor of the procedure Dr. Runels.
